...having become one.
Today was my first day of work as a cashier in a local restaurant. I started at eight in the morning and clocked out at 1:45 this afternoon. My legs and back hurt from five hours of standing, and I have used up all of my social for the day. I also have a menu package to memorize by tomorrow. This first day was overwhelming, but I think I'll get used to the job. It's the fact that it will only last a summer, and then I'll have to find a different one when I go back to school, and have to socialize with even more new people that's freaking me out. Rinse and repeat for the rest of my employed life.
Interacting with people is extraordinarily difficult, and working in a place that values employee/customer relationships means I absolutely have to perform and focus while I'm there. I came home today and felt like my brain was oozing out of my ears. I know at least fifty percent of that is sheer new information, but the level of focus and function required of service workers is astounding.
